Yayoi Kusama:

For new families joining the program and just building their art kit, this post has great ideas and supplies suggestions: How to Create a Basic Art Kit for Your Child
Recycling/Home items to ♻ collect ahead and bring to workshop. You don’t need everything- bring what you have and we will pool all these resources together. Bring:Up-cycled glass jars from your home. Ideally one for each member of your family. We will be painting them during the workshop.
Any reflective material such as grocery paper bags that are lined with foil. Think anything that could become a “mirror” in our artwork.
Good drawing markers will be really fun to experiment with in this session. For wonderful, budget options check out Five Below and if ready to make an investment visit Blick Arts- their selection is of artist quality and their staff is so helpful.
Bring polaroids or adult/kids cameras. We will have the opportunity to use them in one of our stations.
Text/Email pics of any interesting recycling items you have been collecting. Once you have a nice quantity specially I can plan a station around it. For example, participants collected bottle tabs all last year, donated 18 blue glass bottles we ended up turning into wind chimes, saved bags of old grains/beans for collaging etc.
Dress-up Fun: Wear dots all season! Come dressed like Yayoi Kusama Herself or one of her pieces! Orange hair anyone? This will be fun!
If in doubt, bring it. Diverse, interesting materials enrich the creative process. Still have questions? Reach out!

🎃 Kusama-Inspired Pumpkins at Home 🎃
Turn your pumpkins into playful works of art inspired by Yayoi Kusama! All you need are pumpkins (real or craft), bright paint or markers, and lots of dots. Paint your pumpkin in a solid color, then cover it with polka dots in a contrasting shade. Try mixing sizes—tiny dots, medium dots, and big bold ones—to make patterns that pop. Kusama loved repetition, so don’t be shy about filling every surface with spots. Place your finished pumpkin on display as a joyful, dot-covered sculpture!🌿 Important Reminder: This is a cooperative family program. Please plan to stay with your child(ren), participate and lend a hand during the workshop. Together we make Art History in the Park possible!
