Art History X Take Root
“Great art picks up where nature ends.”
Since 2023, Art History in the Park has been leading a bi-monthly program at Take Root Forest School in Fort Lauderdale (located at the historic Bonnet House).
Our program is specifically designed for Take Root’s environment and its unique location — the amazing Bonnet House, a historic home filled with art and local history.
In this space, we develop:
Artistic, observational and critical thinking skills;
Our connection to ourselves and each other;
Our appreciation of art and history through play.
Art History X Take Root is guided by these core beliefs:
Art History is our human history and artists are our visual historians.
Play, exploration and curiosity are at the center of everything.
We are all creative beings and can apply our creativity to any pursuit within/or outside of the arts.
Nature and art are intrinsically connected.

We begin with the history of Bonnet House and then travel back in time to Florida's earliest settlers (12,000 years ago). We stop to explore the significance of major periods.

We explore Line, Color Theory, Positive and Negative Space, Shapes and Texture — both in our own work and in the work of artists that came before us, like Kahlo, Matisse, etc.

We make portraits, sketches, books, cut-outs, pattern drawings, collages, sculptures, baskets, our very own buildings and even bubble paintings.
