Self Portraits in History

“Some say they see poetry in my paintings. I see only science.”

“Originality depends only on the character of the drawing and the vision peculiar to each artist.”

    • Pencil – for sketching what you see

    • Colored pencils – great for layering colors and details

    • Markers or paint pens – for dotting and color play

    • Clipboard or firm surface – helpful for drawing in the grass

    • Optional: Magnifying glass for extra-close looking 👀

(I’ll provide the paper + cardstock viewfinders.)

    • Color Magic
Seurat believed that placing pure colors next to each other could make them look brighter. Try making dots of blue and yellow side by side. Now step back—do you see green appearing? Try other pairs:

      • Red + Blue Do you see purple?

      • Red + Yellow Do you see orange?

      • ✨ Experiment to see how your eyes mix colors! Go deeper into color science here!
